Last time I worked with Fatih Akin was for his first movie in1998 "Kurz & Schmerzlos". As soon as Kay Lüde asked me to work with him on "Aus dem Nichts“ (In the Fade). I was thrilled to assist him, and work again with old friends.
Aus dem Nichts was a box office success around the world, and won several awards. But most important for me is In the Fade shows that Fatih Akin has kept making films of critical importance, from his powerful debut film "Kurz und Schmerzlos", and other great works like "Gegen die Wand“ natural leading to his entry onto the international international stage.
Summary: Out of nowhere, Katja’s life falls apart when her husband Nuri and little son Rocco are killed in a bomb attack. Her friends and family try to give her the support she needs, and Katja somehow manages to make it through the funeral. But the mind numbing search for the perpetrators and reasons behind the senseless killing complicate Katja’s painful mourning, opening wounds and doubts. Danilo, a lawyer and Nuri’s best friend, represents Katja in the eventual trial against the two suspects: a young couple from the neo-Nazi scene. The trial pushes Katja to the edge, but there’s simply no alternative for her: she wants justice.
